Questions
For Personal Reflection or Group Discussion
- Paul says the old self is marked by “futility of thinking” and “hardness of heart” (Ephesians 4: 17 – 19) Where do you notice subtle patterns of the old self lingering in your life – not just obvious sins, but inner attitudes like resentment, envy, or self-pity?
- Paul describes the putting off the old self like stripping away filthy garments. (Ephesians 4: 22) What are some of the “fig leaves” (excuses, busyness, religious activities, image-management) that you tend to use to cover up the hidden heart?
- Paul reminds us that the new self is “created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4: 24) This is not something we achieve but something we receive by abiding in Christ. What daily or weekly practices help you to abide in Christ – not just doing things for him, but actually living with him?
