Pastoral Letter on Returning to the Normal Practice for Holy Communion (Discontinuation of Remote Holy Communion)

Posted on 23 May 2026

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the church could not gather physically for worship, the Methodist Church in Singapore introduced a temporary provision to allow remote participation in Holy Communion. Worshippers were then permitted to collect Holy Communion elements consecrated by an ordained minister and partake of them while joining the Holy Communion service online.

Now that the situation has stabilised and there are no regulations restricting physical gatherings, we will discontinue remote Holy Communion and return to the normal practice. This is because Holy Communion is a key sacrament of the church, and gathering physically as the people of God best preserves and conveys the meaning of this sacrament.

As we return to the normal practice of Holy Communion, we will no longer provide Holy Communion elements for remote participation after 4 July. Until then, we will continue to allow 1 set of elements per person each month for remote participation. These should be collected before the monthly Holy Communion service. After 4 July 2026, Holy Communion elements will no longer be issued for remote participation.

If you are unable to gather with the church for Holy Communion on a sustained basis, we would be glad to serve Holy Communion to you at your home and commune with you as a family of God and body of Christ. Please contact the Church Office or speak with the pastors. Our pastors and church members will be happy to serve you.

Thank you for your kind understanding.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the pastors by calling the Church Office (6293 7997), or emailing them at:
