Nehemiah 12 – Devotional

Nehemiah 12 – Devotional

Posted on 11 May 2024

After completing the building of the wall, despite many challenges within and opposition from without, Nehemiah and the people were ready for a day of dedication and celebration. After decades of neglect, the rebuilding of the wall was completed in only 52 days!

They made intentional efforts in their celebration. They “sought the Levites in all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with gladness, thanksgivings and with singing…”, they gathered the singers from the surrounding districts and villages, they “appointed two great choirs that gave thanks. … And they offered great sacrifices that day and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and children rejoiced.” They gathered all together so that together they could reflect on God’s enabling in the rebuilding of the wall and to celebrate God’s goodness to them.

In our life journey, sometimes, our challenges and difficulties can dominate our thoughts. Yet, at the same time, it will be good to recall specific instances where we can discern the presence and goodness of God and give thanks. Review the key events in your life since the beginning of this year. Where did you see the hand of God in these events that you can give thanks for and celebrate?
