DISCIPLE 3

DISCIPLE 3: REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE, is one of the phases in the four-phase DISCIPLE program. The driving idea in this study is the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. The word You in the title is meant to be heard both in its singular form (the individual) and its plural form (the community). We are a community of memory. Participants in this 32-week study will read the major and minor Old Testament prophets, with the exception of Daniel, and will read the thirteen Letters traditionally attributed to Paul. To establish the historical context in which the prophets spoke for God, daily reading assignments draw also on the books of Deuteronomy through Chronicles. Several themes weave their way through the study; the call to remember; the call to repentance; the need for renewed vision; and the place of community. The prophets and Paul are continually calling hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart.”

Testimonial

Hi, I’m Salome. I just wanted to share how this discipleship class has really enriched my journey with God. To be honest, when I first started, I struggled. The Old Testament felt dry and hard to relate to at times. On top of that, reading for long periods was straining for my eyes. I didn’t want that to stop me, so I turned to the audio Bible — and that was a game-changer. Listening instead of reading helped me stay engaged, and I started to appreciate the stories and truths in a new way.

It also took real discipline to keep up with the weekly questions for each lesson. I made a big decision— not to watch any Korean dramas for 9 months! That might sound small, but for me, it was a real sacrifice. Still, I knew I needed to give my best to God in this season. And through that discipline, I experienced something deeper: hunger for His Word, and joy in learning.

One of the biggest takeaways for me has been understanding that we are made in God’s image — it means that humans uniquely reflect aspects of God’s character — spiritually, morally, relationally, and in our calling. It is a powerful idea that shapes how we understand human purpose, dignity, and responsibility in the world. Rather than solely focusing on the present, we view life through the lens of eternity, an eternal perspective.

God is with us when we feel overwhelmed or unworthy. I also realised how much we need one another in the church. Being part of this KKMC community reminded me that we must build each other up and keep each of us accountable in our walk. Even small things — saying hi to someone new, checking in with someone, serving quietly behind the scenes — those little acts matter. Just speaking to one person each Sunday could be the encouragement they need.

One verse that’s stayed with me is Hebrews 10:24-25: “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

I’m really thankful for this class — the facilitators Serena and Kimberly for preparing the lessons, their patience in explaining different passages, for the learning of God’s word, the makan sessions, the growth (spiritual and physical), and the deepening of friendships. It’s shown me that when we commit to walking with God and each other, even the tough parts become meaningful.
