- What has crisis revealed in you?
The sermon reminds us that “the crisis they faced did not turn them foolish; it revealed the foolishness that was already there.” Think back to a recent hardship, disappointment, or testing season. What did it bring to the surface about the true condition of your heart and your walk with God — and rather than resenting the crisis, how might you let it show you where you still need to grow? - Whose oil have you been running on — and where is your own jar low?
We’re told the oil “cannot be borrowed”: no one can lend us their prayer life, their study of the Word, their years of loving their neighbour. Of the channels through which God fills the jar — quiet time, Scripture, prayer, worship with God’s people, the Lord’s Table, acts of love — which one have you been neglecting, quietly leaning on the faith of others to cover? Which single “appointment” is God inviting you to keep this week? - Is your devotion today wholehearted, real, and constant?
Jesus’ remedy is the greatest commandment: love the Lord your God with all your heart, and love your neighbour as yourself. It is not yet midnight — the oil of grace is still on offer. What is one concrete “drop” you will add this week to store up that oil, in loving God more nearly or loving a particular neighbour more actively?
