- How is the rite of Confession in worship beneficial to one’s spiritual growth and formation?
- Some have claimed that regular confession of sins focuses our attention on our sinfulness and ends up trapping us in guilt and shame, which contradicts the gospel of Christ. But Jesus and the New Testament did call believers to confess our sins. (Matt 5: 23 – 24; 18: 15 – 17; Jas 5: 16; 1 Jn 1: 9) How does confessing our sins in a proper worship service or Christian context address the concern claimed? (Hint: Think about what happens in the worship service after the people have confessed their sins.)
- What is the significance of Christians saying “Peace be with you,” and exchanging signs of peace with one another in worship?
