Sypnosis:
There are relationships in which we are not simply journeying alongside another by choice, but caring for them out of responsibility, role, or circumstance. In such situations, strong negative emotions—such as frustration, anger, resentment, or emotional exhaustion—can arise, leaving us torn between our sense of duty and our emotional limits.
This session explores how we can care responsibly without becoming emotionally depleted or losing ourselves. Drawing from counselling insights and pastoral wisdom, it will examine why certain relationships trigger such intense reactions, the difference between healthy compassion and over-giving, and how appropriate emotional distance and boundaries can enable us to continue caring in ways that are both faithful and sustainable.

About Ming Cherng: Ming Cherng is a registered counsellor and clinical member of the Singapore Association for Counselling, with more than 14 years of counselling experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and relational stress. He runs his own counselling practice, Cherng’s Listening Ear. He is a member of Kampong Kapor Methodist Church, and is currently the Church Archivist and Chairperson of the Family Life Committee.
