For Personal Reflection or Group Discussion
- Have you encountered or witnessed or heard of a disagreement in a community (e.g. church, family, workplace, etc.) that led to bitterness, or a party choosing to leave the relationship? What was the presenting issue of contention?
- Put yourself in the shoes of each party. For each party, what was the underlying issue of concern that motivated the contention? What guidance does Scripture give on these issues?
- Put yourself in the shoes of each party. For each party, how would you “speak the truth in love” to promote unity, peace and growth in that community? (Think not only about what to say, but how to say it, and also accompanying actions.)
