This talk took place on Wednesday, 23 Mar & Thursday, 24 Mar 2022.
Synopsis: The Chinese pride themselves as a people of rites and rituals, history and heritage. How can the Christian gospel be incarnate in Chinese culture? Can one be a Chinese and Christian?
Over two sessions of Chinese tea, we will explore what it means to be Chinese through the core values of the Chinese cultural identity. We will also seek to understand how humans can relate in harmony with heaven (天人合一) as we relate with and reach out to the adherents of the Chinese religious practice, which encompasses the beliefs and practices of Confucian, Taoist and Buddhist faiths. Journeying together as a community of faith in East Asia, we hope to generate ideas for cultural expressions of the Christian faith which can be helpful for our Asian contexts.
Speaker: Mr. Lawrence Ko has served as national director of Singapore Centre for Global Missions for over 10 years. He has served as a pastor, mission worker and corporate trainer over the past 30 years and is active with SEANET, a global initiative to reach Asians with Asian religious worldviews.
